Dec. 14- Dec. 17th

My cool cats had a very crazy week!!
 Throughout our week we:
        • Got to watch Reindeer Cam and saw the Grinch!!!
        • Went to the STEM Lab twice!! (They loved that!)
        • Had the High School Band play us Christmas songs at lunch!
        • Got to visit with Santa!
        • Made a green screen video! Happy Holidays
        • Wrapped presents for Family Members!
        • Made a handprint wreath that I will probably keep up all year!
        • Watch the Santa Claus 2 with the whole school in the gym!
        • and last but not least had an AWESOME Christmas Party!!
Unfortunately for this blog I only have pictures from our Christmas party. My phone started to act crazy on Friday and it would restart over and over but never really boot up. I tried to backup my phone but didn't get to soon enough...I ended up getting a new phone the following Monday but the only backup I could use was from Sunday the 13th :( So i ended up losing all the awesome videos and pictures from the STEM lab, Santa, and our green screen video. Luckily some things I had already uploaded to Twitter.

This break has been awesome but boy am I ready to see my kiddos again!!! All I could think of these past few days with this icy snow storm is I hope all my kids are somewhere warm, safe and have plenty to eat.

December 7-11

This week has been super crazy!! We had different schedules to get ready for the 3rd and 4th grade music programs. Who would have known that such a slight change would throw me so off.

Monday we had an Author visit with Darleen Bailey Beard. The kids loved hearing about her and about some of the books she has written. After talking to the kids she signed some books for those students who bought one of her books. She even ate lunch with a couple of lucky kiddos!

Our random act of kindness was picking up little from around the school.

Tuesday we practiced as a class using the app ZooKazam for our visitors that came on Wednesday. I had groups of students take a picture with an animal but they didn't know what the animal was until after I had taken the picture! Our random act of kindness was taking everyone in the office candy canes and a note!

Wednesday we had visitors from Altus to check our some of the technology we use. We got into groups and did a research project on Polar Bears. Every student wrote down 3 facts they learned about polar bears from the app ZooKazam. We also took pictures with a polar bear in our small groups and as a class! Later we took those facts and wrote them on a polar bear paper and did a craft for it. Those ended up looking like this:

Our random act of kindness was giving every second grade teacher a flower and a few notes.

Thursday morning we got watch the 3rd graders practice for their music program. Our class completely missed PE because it was at a different time than usual and I guess my brain decided not to work! I even had it written down in my lesson plans and still didn't remember! Our random act of kindness was giving the janitors little boxes of laffy taffy and notes to go with them!

Friday we watched the 4th grade music program and I remembered to send the kids to PE after it (they would not have let me forget this time!!!)! We played a couple of rounds of sparkle to practice our spelling words and the we had our spelling test, math facts test, and our written math test.

Educational Recap:

Phonics: Ghost Letter Digraph gn, wr, kn. Diphthong ou and Digraph ou. Diphthong ow and Digraph ow. Suffixes -er,

Testing...Testing...is this thing working? Hopefully it is!

This last week in our classroom we were very busy taking our middle of the year (did I just say middle of the year? Time is flying by!) Alpha test. We also worked on verbs, cause and effect and reviewing Rhyme, Rhythm, and Alliteration!

On Tuesday we learned that our Student of the Month for November is Ms. Autumn!! We also started our Santa Countdown where everyday we are gluing a cotton ball onto Santa's beard until Christmas Day!

On Wednesday we started our Candy Cane Countdown. Everyday we read a poem counting down the days until Christmas break and 1 or 2 students gets to take home a candy cane! We also started our 12 days of Random Acts of Kindness! The kids are absolutely loving this! On Wednesday we wrote little notes to put into random library books for other students to find. When we came back into our room from PE we all had candy canes on our desk with little notes from another class that had Random Act of Kindness(ed) us! On Thursday we gave cookies to all of our wonderful cooks and on Friday our class plus Mrs. Flores' class and Ms. Brickhouse's class took donuts to the board office.

On Thursday when the kids got to class there were 11 presents under our class Christmas tree. After lunch we got to open the first present and it was a book! All the kids knew that all of the presents are books but they are really excited to open them and see what book is inside.

Friday we got to decorate ornaments for our 2nd grade tree that is in the gym. I got a puzzle pieces for each kiddo and spray painted them gold. Then we went down to the basement and decorated them however they wanted. At 2:15 we got to enjoy the wonderful dancing of the Hub City Inter-Tribal Youth. They did so amazing and my students absolutely loved it!
